This week, two beautiful Perth homes, in Claremont.

1. “COLWYN” over Freshwater Bay @ Claremont, WA

  • Bathrooms: 5
  • Land Size: 1021 m² (approx)

Outdoor Features

This home is amazing, very pretty,
and it gloriously backs onto the Freshwater Bay.
The architectural work in the ceilings,
the fire places, all the “little” details…

This the entry, see the front door below!

I personally don’t like parquetry, but I imagine
restoring an old home like this requires immense restraint
as it could become a money pit, with little or
no return on investment, specially heritage homes.

I’m not a fan of this pink colour in here,
but it’s about the only fault I can make with this home!

Master with sitting area.

This room is amazing!
Look at the fretwork over the window
(almost like a romantic pelmet)
and again over the fireplace!

This fireplace actually reminds me of a church!

I love curtains that “boof” like this!
(“boof” – decorator speak!)

Check out the views over the water from the bathroom!

This is the rear exterior overlooking the waterway.

And here is their daily views!

AND here’s what the Agent said about it!

Colwyn Splendour on Victoria Avenue
A masterful renovation has transformed this stately historic residence into a modern mansion overlooking Freshwater Bay.

Always impressive and very beautiful for its time, Colwyn was originally designed and purpose built by craftsmen as an imposing gentlemans residence in an extremely desirable riverfront location. In latter years the home was showing signs of age and was obviously in need of considerable restoration work.

The present owners bought the property because they recognized its sound construction and great potential and undertook a massive renovation to restore Colwyn and bring it up to modern standards while maintaining the integrity and character of the original home.

No expense was spared and exquisite taste, great skill and loving attention to detail created a splendid masterpiece that deserved and won Renovation of the Year.

The formal rooms, grand entry and staircase, leadlight panels, fireplaces, and some exquisite, delicate fretwork echo the turn of last century, while ensuite bathrooms, home theatre, lap pool, up-to-the-minute kitchen and laundry, 2 studies, airconditioning and cutting-edge security provide all the essentials for a luxurious lifestyle in the modern world.

Its a privilege to offer Colwyn for sale, providing an opportunity for a new owner to write the next chapter in the story of this magnificent home.

2. “PIPIRIKI” @ Claremont, WA

General Features
PRICE RANGE: $4.9 Million

  • Property Type: House
  • Bedrooms: 5
  • Bathrooms: 2
  • Land Size: 1306 m² (approx)

Outdoor Features

  • Carport Spaces: 2
  • Swimming Pool – Inground
A beautifully restored home built 1903,
for half the price of the home above!
(no dreaded parquetry here tho!)

I actually really like these floral cushions in this room,
I’m not sure why tho *smile*.

I doubt this home has had a designer decorate,
the showcase of this home is the architecture,
beautiful ceilings, trims, etc.

Just check out those gorgeous heritage ceilings…

I kinda don’t mind these simple kitchen cabinets,
adds to the charm of the over all home…

Beautiful, simple bedrooms…

Notice the window, with a curtain,
leading out to another room!
Obviously an extension, these are the reasons
I’m never a fan of owning a heritage home,
limitations and restrictions everywhere!
(notice the blue spotted wallpaper…)

And more of those spectacular heritage ceilings…

(notice the pink spotted wallpaper…)

Playroom leading off the bedrooms!

This is a family home first and foremost.

And here’s the Master Plan…

AND here’s what the Agent said about it!

TIMELESS CLASSIC
In 1903 wealthy families sought architects who would provide them with an individual home befitting their status. Many such homes were large by previous standards, complex in plan and appearance, and finished to a degree previously unattainable. Pipiriki was designed to reflect the success and new found status of the family and was certainly a showpiece for its time. Today Pipiriki has been lovingly restored to its former glory with additional features that cater for a comfortable and modern lifestyle.

As soon as you step through the grand gates you will be taken aback. This timeless beauty exudes charm and captures the hearts of everyone.

The original front door contains beautiful stained glass which is a theme that runs throughout the entire home and the initials of the original family that were moulded into the shicco panels down the side of the house were replicated in the cement effigy.

Large and perfectly proportioned rooms give a wonderful feeling of grandeur that cannot be matched by its contemporaries. The children have their own separate retreat which conveniently has access to the bedrooms and 2nd bathroom. The little princess of the family will love having her own princess tower ceiling in the bedroom.

The massive kitchen and dining area which is the hub of the home has a real sense of family yet sophistication. Due to the warm and familiar feel you can imagine the different families that have gathered around this kitchen over the last 106 years, it will make it difficult for you to walk away from the opportunity to experience the many precious memories this home has to offer.

Open the glass doors to the veranda which overlooks the heated swimming pool and enjoy the serenity while watching the kids swim and play. The relaxed and tranquil veranda and stunning entertaining area makes family gatherings and formal dinner parties a must.

I love this home. i find that may of the old homes in perth are destroyed or shabbily renovated, so it is nice to see that this old beauty has been treated with the respect it deserves. And given a price tag to suit!! Thanks for posting it.

This home is spectacular. I came across your post this morning while browsing interior design blogs and your take on interior décor is exquisite. How would window treatments complement the designs above the window? It is true that you must dress your windows appropriately to bring out their true beauty. Thank you for writing and as a special thanks to you and your readers, I would like to offer a 20% off coupon using this code upon checkout: BLG20.

So many great elements in both of these homes. Love the great architectural details, especially the ceilings in the second home. And the bedrooms in the first home are beautiful.
